Making a Spring Meal

As part of Cafe Mom's Spring Renewal Challenge I have been given the task of making the family a home cooked light spring meal to help re-energize myself and them and help to bring spring forward.

We have fresh peppers, onions, cheese, and a whole array of other things but I still have no idea what I am going to make.

Hopefully in 12 hours or so I can come back and give a rundown of what I am making :)

Edit: Meal and photos

Made a simple yet yummy meal. Fresh peppers and onions with shredded cheddar cheese. Rolled the mix in a crescent roll from Pillsbury and baked in the oven according to the cooking instructions on the can :) Super yummy, fresh and easy. This will be a staple this spring and summer :)

Sick of Teachers!

Are you sick of highly paid teachers?

Teachers' hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or10 months a year!

It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do - babysit!

We can get that for less than minimum wage. That's right. Let's give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school.

That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch and plan-- that equals 6 1/2 hours).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children.

Now how many students do they teach in a day...maybe 30? So that's $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day.

However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! I am not going to pay them for any vacations.

LET'S SEE....

That's $585 X 180= $105,300 per year. (Hold on! My calculator needs new batteries).

What about those special education teachers and the ones with Master's degrees?

Well, we could pay them minimum wage ($7.75), and just to be fair, round it off to $8.00 an hour.

That would be $8 X 6 1/2 hours X 30 children X 180 days = $280,800 per year.

Wait a minute -- there's something wrong here! There sure is!

The average teacher's salary (nation wide) is $50,000.

$50,000/180 days = $277.77/per day/30 students=$9.25/6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student.

A very inexpensive baby-sitter and they even EDUCATE your kids!)

WHAT A DEAL!!!!

Make a teacher smile; repost this to show appreciation for all educators.

Never Stop Learning!

I am going to start to learn Hebrew through an online program :)
I am excited and a bit nervous but feel that it will expand my knowledge and open up a lot of different things for me too.
I was going to start today but it seems that my sound card or my speakers aren't working :( hopefully I can get this resolved this weekend.

Happy Valentine's Day!

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud
'Cause we shall be free
When we're free to love anyone we choose
When this world's big enough for all different views
When we all can worship from our own kind of pew
Then we shall be free
We shall be free

What I have read so far this year...

The Road by Cormac McCarthy
The Hunger Series Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

I am hoping to read 50 this year.

Next week I am purchasing the first book of the Sookie Stackhouse series and hopefully will complete those too.

Any other suggestions?

Memories

Have you ever had a memory so vivid that you could taste, feel, hear it?

Out of no where I just recollected about my 5th grade saxophone lessons. I could literally feel the sax on my fingers, the coolness of it, the taste of the instrument, I could feel the room around me, see it so clear.

I have no revisited this memory in YEARS or even remembered it and bam out of nowhere it smacks me square in the face...

Crayola Bomb

Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon.  A happiness weapon.  A beauty bomb.  And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one.  It would explode high in the air - explode softly - and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air.  Floating down to earth - boxes of Crayolas.  And we wouldn't go cheap, either - not little boxes of eight.  Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in.  With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest.  And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination.  ~Robert Fulghum
